Criminal

Now this is not the blog I want to use to discuss comics, although I have always loved the medium and probably always will. But I want to bring this book to your attention (click on the graphic):

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips‘ Criminal, self-published through Marvel‘s Icon creator-owned imprint, is a rare book. No superheroes, no soap operatics, this is a dark, noir series of interconnected stories about the people living in the shadows and the underbelly of life, and I love it. It’s not all about collecting for the sake of it, of presentation or marketing gimmicks designed to make you buy as many other books as possible as well. It’s about a love of noir storytelling – material James Elroy would be proud of. Issue 1 is out this week and you’d be well advised to buy it.

If you want a taster first though, get down to your nearest bookshop and get the first two collected stories of the first run of this award winning book, or order them with the links below. You’ll be glad you did and they don’t break the bank.
