That is the big question, and one that's been asked for a while now. The references to the Medusa Cascade certainly aren't as subtle as we'd been led to believe arc references would be - red herrings or just us being misled slightly by the production team. I liked the episode, but am waiting to properly judge it 'til I've seen the second part.
