Campaign Sniping (my sniping)

January 29, 2008 · 3 Comments

Of course the results of the Florida primary aren’t yet in, but does anyone really think that Giuliani has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning it? And if when he loses does anyone really think he’ll try to contest Super Tuesday? Not a chance. I can’t say I’m disappointed – a man whose strengths have all been overestimated, whose ability to milk 9/11 has outdone even W’s, really shouldn’t be the party nominee for President. He’s a hell of a sight better than the chameleon Romney, but with the economy in freefall, the man’s suddenly developing a constituency out of thin air. McCain or Romney as the nominee for November, still likely to be McCain.

Oh could I also point out some staggering hypocrisy on the Democrats’ side while I’m in this mood? Barack Obama’s basing his platform almost entirely on breaking the stranglehold of political dynasties in Washington. But then trumpets an endorsement from the Kennedys. Sigh. The ultimate insiders are now his best friends, which is a ‘good thing’, but BillHillary (snigger) are now his mortal enemies because they do politics the ‘old way’? Bill was right – ‘give me a break’.

Ugh. I am bored with Obama at the moment, particularly with the Kennedy nonsense. I am, as I have been for a while, leaning toward Hillary for the Democrats. Or BillHillary/HillBillary/whatever other name the detractors come up with.

Giuliani has, I think, lost th eplot. He could win, it’s true, but I don’t see it at the moment. I think McCain is going to edge it over Romney at the moment, but a few weeks is a long time in politics and who can tell.

At last McCain’s edging ahead – this is good news for all of us. If two basically decent people slug it out in November, at least the country (and the rest of us) stands a chance.

Obama though? He really did appear quite the hypocrite with this episode. I know it was timed mostly by the Kennedys to shut Bill Clinton up (which seems to have worked), but it is the exact opposite of what Obama says he’s about. New politics? Really? With that old codger? If he wants to build coalitions outside of his base, that’s a really bad way of going about it.

heh I found this old post of yours Jason. See it could have been much worse. This is the match you wanted after all. For all their faults they are two decent people running.
